About Me

Picture
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alabama, USA. My lab is the Extremophile Evolution lab (website coming soon!).

I am interested in organismal adaptations to extreme environments. I am an integrative biologist using evolutionary history (phylogenomics), comparative and conservation genomics, physiology, and morphology to better understand the genetic bases and phenotypic expression of extremophile character trait maintenance and evolution. My primary study organisms thus far have been fishes living in harsh environments including caves and the deep-sea (i.e., cavefishes and anglerfishes). Research into extremophile evolution has implications for evolutionary biology but also human health and biotechnology. My research is driven by a curiosity and love of the natural world as well as an underlying passion for conservation of at-risk organisms.

I have experience in Museum Curation, Research, Teaching, Coding, Grant Writing, and Mentoring.
